Galway County Council Tourism Film Proposal

About Me

My name is Chris Tierney, I am a designer and filmmaker who has been based in Galway just over 20 years.

I have worked on films, videos and animation projects for a wide range of organisations that have included University of Galway, Failte Ireland, Galway City Council, Galway County Council, the Marine Institute, ATU and many private companies.

The natural environments of the west coast have always been a large part of my work and I’ve travelled all over the county in search of great images – I’m an expert cinematographer, drone pilot,  director and editor with some special effects and animation experience.  I am also an active participant in the local film scene, having had work screened at Galway Film Fleadh and regularly at Little Cinema Galway.

My latest major projects were animations commissoned by Ardan and produced for CÚRAM, the Science Foundation Ireland research centre.

I am very happy to have the opportunity to present my past work and a proposal to produce this promotional film for the County Council – I have embedded a wide range of my projects at the bottom of the page – not every shot in every one of these will be relevant, however I wanted to gather them here as a resource for discussion.

Deliverables & Project Approach

As specified, the deliverables for this project should be a film that reflects the amazing opportunities that Galway County has to offer while at the same time reflecting the core values of the City Council. I propose to deliver at least one core film that may either have multiple shorter edits to suit different uses, or be broken into multiple parts. The specifics are entirely open to discussion and may depend on the material we gather – the exact approach to the film and the subjects we shoot will require careful discussion.

Timeline

I am personally available to start working on the project  immediately and on a rolling basis – I am the type of filmmaker who is always-on, and always available, so the main constraints on the project are going be matching participant availability with the weather. I am conscious that some fixed-date opportunities, such as the Clarinbridge Oyster Festival kick off in just a few days.

Once we’ve wrapped shooting it should be less than one week before we see almost-finished version(s) of the film. I would like to see all of the core photography finished in the month of September while the days are still a reasonable length and while the weather holds – delivery of the finished film(s) in that case would be in early October.

If there are other constraints or considerations re: the deadline it will always be possible to compress the schedule to suit.

Budget Proposal

The budget I am outlining below has been designed to fit within your proposed maximum of €15,000 with some room to spare. As well as access to my extensive archive of existing footage, the  spreadsheet embedded below (and linked here) allows for:

  • 4 days of prep work
  • 10 days shooting
  • 6 days of shooting with cast members
  • Budget  for producers, extra crew and transport on certain days
  • 4 days of edit time
  • Delivery of multiple versions of the film
  • Room  for unexpected overheads
